Betty Marjorie (Cooper) Gordanier May 4, 1930 – March 8, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother at the age of 93. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Betty is lovingly remembered by her four children, Brenda (Larry), Jerry (Jane Lea), Rick (Maureen), and Cathy (Kerry); four grandchildren, Cory, Leanne (Ian), Larisa (Matt), Nicole; and one great grandson Julien. She was predeceased by her husband Harold (2023), father Edmund Cooper (1950), mother Eleanor (Wilson) (1978), and three siblings, Edna (2008), Dorothy (Young) (1999) and Thomas (2002).
Betty was born on May 4, 1930, in Ponoka, Alberta. She grew up and schooled in Ponoka through the Great Depression and post-war years. While working in the Nurses dormitory at the Provincial Mental Hospital, she renewed acquaintances with former schoolmate Harold Gordanier. They married in 1950 and eventually settled in Olds in 1964.
Through her life, Betty enjoyed square dancing, curling, golf, quilt making, working at the Legion and much more. The family camped often and later, she and Harold spent winters in Mesa, Arizona, and area for 20 years. She was an avid gardener and loved tending to the songbirds that thrived in the yard.
Betty was a pleasure to be around. She had a wonderfully generous, loving, and caring spirit, and showed exceptional loyalty to those she knew. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
A private family interment will be performed with no formal service. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Olds Hospital.
