Violet Bortolin Obituary
At sunset on September 3, 2024, Violet Bortolin passed away peacefully in Diamond Valley, Alberta, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Violet lived a life dedicated to the service of others. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Violet had a deep love for our Saviour Jesus Christ and strove to follow his supernal example. Violet was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, and nurse—always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Violet’s childhood was spent on the North Shore of Vancouver, where she and her six sisters and brother roamed the Seymour River valley. The bonds formed during those days were strong, and the family often gathered for joyous feasts filled with song, dance, and laughter. Violet loved music and found joy in playing the piano, singing with her family, and performing in her high school operettas.
As a young woman, Violet pursued her passion for caring for others by training as a nurse at Saint Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. This marked the beginning of her lifelong commitment to compassion and service. She worked in various locations along British Columbia’s coast, including Powell River, where a fateful social gathering led her to meet Delphi, a student home from the University of Toronto. The two fell in love and were married several years later.
After a few years of saving and planning, Violet and Delphi settled into a lovely home in West Vancouver to start their family. Over the years, they moved across North America due to Delphi’s career, and with each move, Violet created a warm, loving home and beautiful gardens for their growing family. They were blessed with three children: two sons and a daughter.
In retirement, Violet and Delphi found paradise in Parksville, B.C., where they enjoyed the beaches, woods, and waterfalls with their grandchildren. Later, as Delphi and Violet’s health required more care, they moved to Okotoks and Diamond Valley to be closer to family.
Violet is survived by her children David (Dionne), Michele (Cameron), and Ted; her grandchildren Carla, Jeremy, Levi (Noelle), Brennen, Zachary (Jessica), and Courtney (Justin); her sisters Joy, Julia (Karl), and Grace (Mario); her brother-in-law Don; and many adoring nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Violet was predeceased by her parents Gerardus and Deijmphina, her husband Delphi, her brother Heber, her sisters Celeste, Teddy, and Dahlia, and her brothers-in-law Sam, Matthew, and Jim.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
405 Dunham Lane, Diamond Valley, Alberta, on Saturday September 14,
at 11 a.m.
An additional celebration of life will be held in Vancouver with beloved
family and friends in B.C. at a date T.B.A.
We love you mom, “forever and ever and ever!” Families are forever.
