Margie. Mom. Nanny.
Margaret “Margie” Hull (Duffin) passed away peacefully with her loved ones close by on the evening of March 14, 2024. Born in Windsor, Ont. March 4, 1942, to Dr. Grant “Dudley” and Margaret Duffin, she was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart and best friend, Ken. She met “her guy” at age 13 and together they raised their treasured family and travelled the world in Ken’s last years. She was the youngest of four sisters, predeceased by Lorraine and Liz, and survived by Marilyn.
Margie graduated from Metropolitan Hospital School of Nursing in Windsor, Ont. in 1963. She devoted her life to helping and caring for people, always with a ‘nurses’ heart. First and foremost were her kids, Sheryl (Dean), Grant (Netty), Shannon (Jason), and Norm (Mitsuko) as well as grandchildren (Miranda, Kenley, Ally, Jack, Ethan, Elijah, Dylan, Gabrielle and Marissa).
The joy she had for her family was evident and life with Margie and Ken was always an adventure. You would find Margie at every track meet, hockey game or horse show. She was an unwavering, strong and fiercely independent person who was the greatest cheerleader for her family in all things. Margie brought fun into everything she did with her fresh sense of humour and knack for making everyone fall in love with her as the “cool mom”. She was a best friend, jokester, life of the party, caretaker and so much more.
Margie was lucky enough to have met a special person in loving partner Robert “Bob”, with whom she shared many fun times with friends and travelling later in life.
She devoted much of her time to volunteering with Hospice Calgary, The Salvation Army, Cancer Society, Spruce Meadows and various other organizations.
In true Margie fashion she wrote this part of her obituary:
“It is my wish not to have a service but as a remembrance to myself I would love to be looking down and watching my family and friends sharing laughter and good times that we always enjoyed together. I feel very strongly about this. I am sure that you get my point! ~ Love Mommy and Nanny – of course.”
A special thank you to the long-term care team at Tudor Manor for the compassion shown to our mom and the guidance and comfort in her last days. In lieu of flowers and to continue Margie’s legacy, please consider making a donation to the Brenda Strafford Foundation, Tudor Manor, Okotoks or the Calgary Humane Society.
