February 21, 1923 ~ July 16, 2024
Hulda Martha Whyte (nee Kelm) was born on February 21, 1923, and passed onto her Forever Home on July 16, 2024. Hulda was born into the Kelm family on a farm near Eatonia, Saskatchewan where she lived until her father’s passing. Along with her mother and brother Alfred, she then moved to Oliver, BC where they became fruit packers. While in Oliver, Hulda decided that she would rather be a nurse, and on her own, moved to Vancouver for nurse’s training. She was in that field for many years in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. It was in Manitoba where Hulda left nursing behind to take care of family and to be more involved in her husband’s calling to pastoral ministry. In her latter 30 years or so, Hulda spent many enjoyable moments with her faith family, the residents and staff at South Country Village. She is eternally grateful for the loving and caring relationships she was able to experience. All the visits, phone calls, letters and cards of encouragement were all very much appreciated. Hulda was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Frank Whyte, who passed away in 2006; parents, Simon and Amalia; brothers, Willie and Alfred as well as her sisters, Emma and Lydia. Left to mourn Hulda’s passing is her daughter, Bobbie; sons, Larry (Brenda), Alan (Holly), Tom (Lolita) and Dale; grandchildren, Shad (Jennifer), Bradley (Marta), Megan (Michael), Cory (Kaysea), Laura (JD), Darby and Ray and her great-grandchildren, Hayen, Riley, Chloe, Liliana, Aleksandra, Parker, Gavin, Holden and Makenna. Also surviving Hulda are nieces and nephews from the Kelm and Klettke families. Rest in Peace, Hulda (Mom/Grandma)! Enjoy the presence of Jesus, run free, tend the gardens, watch the birds, pet the animals and bake butter tarts. A Memorial Celebration of Hulda’s life will be held in the Wuerfel Auditorium at South Country Village, 1720 Bell Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating.
The service will be live streamed. Those who cannot attend but wish to experience Hulda’s celebration may visit the Cook Southland website and select the View Broadcast button on the homepage at service time.
