Ken Davies Obituary
It is with sadness the family of Robert Arthur Kenneth “Ken” Davies announce his passing at the Red Deer Hospice while surrounded by his loved ones.
Ken was born in Clive, Alberta, to Bob and Edith Davies. He was the first born Canadian of the Davies family after his parents and sister immigrated from Wales in 1930. Ken attended Sargent School and Nelson school until the twelfth grade.
At the age of 10, Ken worked on the Elliot farm (Clive, Alberta) shoveling grain and raking hay. By the age of 12 he was shoveling coal for the steam trains in Lacombe. Ken joined the Cadets during the war and trained in artillery and tanks. As soon as he could drive, Ken drove gravel trucks for Hopkins Construction.
After high school Ken worked up north for a seismic company. He then went on to the construction of the Trans-Canada Highway in Banff, Alberta. He was the first man on Mount Norquay with a CAT. Ken fell in love with the Rockies and the West Country. Ken then trained as a parts manager and worked at Mainline Motors for many years. He met his wife Vicky when she worked next door as an AGT telephone operator.
When Ken was 50 years old, he became one of the founding partners of Pentagon Farm Center Ltd. along with his son-in-law David Williams.
Ken taught St. John’s First Aid and Hunter Training Courses. He was also a board member for the Lacombe Action Group. Ken also was the trainer and general manager for the Lacombe Merchants Hockey Team.
Ken loved horses, dogs, fishing, camping, hunting, golf and curling. He enjoyed many hours of cards and games with family and friends. Upon retirement Ken and Vicky spent many winters in California. They also travelled to the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom. Ken was a humble man with a perpetual smile and infectious laugh.
