Mr. Robert Vernon ‘Bob’ Sherwood of Innisfail, Alberta, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the age of 75 years. Bob was born the eldest of three children on June 26, 1949 at Brooks, Alberta to Vernon and Hazel Sherwood (nee Boothman). Bob was a kind older brother. He enjoyed playing near the water tower with the neighborhood kids and his dad often took him ice fishing when he was young. Bruce Aunger took his boys, along with Bob and his brother, Terry and some of the neighborhood kids camping and fishing. Bob got hooked on fishing and after school he and one of his friends would hitchhike out to the river and fish. Bob worked for the Town of Innisfail when he was in his late teens. He also did some carpentry work around town and later he worked for Travelaire in Red Deer, Alberta for around ten years. After that, he began working for John Manville in Innisfail until his retirement. He married Maureen McCullough on August 4, 1984, sadly they divorced in 2001. In Bob’s later years he had taken up golfing and would be out on the course as much as possible. Bob was a very good and loyal friend and was the best brother a girl could ask for, and he will be missed dearly. He was also a great “dad” to his fur babies; it was hard to keep track of how many cats he would take in over the years. The Saskatchewan Roughriders and Vancouver Canucks have lost their most loyal fan. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Judith Sherwood, his cousins and their families, as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his father Vernon Sherwood in 1971 and his mother, Hazel Sherwood (nee Boothman) in 1999, and his brother, Terry Sherwood in 2022. The family would like to say thank you to the paramedics and RCMP who came to Bob’s home. Thank you for your expert care and compassion, your kindness will not be forgotten. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at Heartland Funeral Services Chapel, 4415 – 49 Street, Innisfail, Alberta on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Bob’s honor may be made to the S.P.C.A. at 17904 – 118 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta, T5S 2W3 or at www.albertaspca.org or to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre at 3942-50A Avenue Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 4E7.
