It is with heavy hearts the family of Leanne Jayne Byl, age 61, announce her passing in Picture Butte, Alberta on April 17, 2024.
Leanne was born on April 22, 1962 to John and Ksena (Nee. Kay) Luciow in Edmonton, Alberta joining her older brother Lester Luciow (b. 1958). In 1972, her younger brother Dwight Luciow joined the family. Leanne spent the majority of her early life growing up in Uranium City, Saskatchewan. In her younger years, Leanne was an avid athlete, student, and community member. Leanne enjoyed cross country skiing, curling, volleyball, figure skating, piano, choir, and Brownies. Leanne attended Candu High School in Uranium City Saskatchewan where she was an active member of the school council and graduated as valedictorian in 1980.
Leanne met her husband, Allen, in 1979 at the Northern Saskatchewan Winter Games. They started dating in 1983. After a few years of dating, they married on May 18, 1985 in Sturgis, Saskatchewan. They settled in La Ronge, Saskatchewan for a few years with Leanne working at a local bank and Allen pursuing his flying career. With both seeking career enhancements, Leanne and Allen made the joint decision to pursue university degrees at the University of North Dakota where they spent the next four years. Leanne excelled in her studies, graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, Summa Cum Laude in 1991. Leanne began working as an Occupational Therapist straight out of university and practiced in many areas of Occupational Therapy. She spent the majority of her career as a school-based pediatric Occupational Therapist. Leanne had a passion for working with children, families, co-workers, and especially her OT students. She was planning on retiring in June.
Leanne and Allen have two wonderful children, Jocelyn and Lucas. Throughout the years, they
enjoyed many family trips to Maui and camping trips in the mountains. Leanne had a passion for
hiking, yoga, traveling, and quilting. Leanne and Allen welcomed anyone and everyone into their home with open arms, often providing many with life advice on a personal and professional level. Leanne loved to have a good time and be around her family and friends. She had a way with people and would always lend an ear to listen or hand to help. Leanne supported people wherever they were at in their lives, which made people want to be around her.
Leanne is survived by her husband Allen Byl; her children Jocelyn (James Bews) Byl, Lucas Byl; and her siblings Lester (Bonita) Luciow, Dwight (Anne) Luciow.
Leanne is predeceased by her parents John and Ksena (Nee. Kay) Luciow.
