It is with a heavy heart that the family of Eugene Sniher, announce his peaceful passing on April 5, 2024 at the age of 83.
Eugene was born in a little farm house near Insinger Saskatchewan on August 18, 1940 to Peter and Mary Sniher. He was the eldest of three; his sister, Phyllis (John) and brother, Lorne (Donna). He attended and graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Yorkton, Sask. On July 20, 1963, Eugene married the love of his life, Shirley Abbott.
Eugene excelled at many different jobs in his lifetime. Just out of high school, he was a member of the Silvertones Band where he played the saxophone at local dances. He was then employed at the Yorkton Union Hospital as an x-ray and lab technician. He worked construction at the new Esterhazy Potash Mine; driving to work from home in Yorkton with his coworkers’ and friends, with what they fondly called Harv. Kak Car Club. From there we moved to Delisle where Eugene obtained his machinist and millwright ticket; then moved onto The Pas, Manitoba where he pursued the jobs.
After moving to Calgary in 1973, he worked at ACT in sales selling tool and die. He sold over a million dollars’ worth of product two years in a row and became their Million Dollar Man. Eugene retired from his successful career in sales at the age of 65.
Eugene enjoyed the outdoors, camping with family and friends, hunting, fishing, golfing and travelling in their motor home to Arizona where they enjoyed their winters for 12 of their retirement years. Amongst all his many talents, he built a rocking horse, toy chests and wooden doll cradles for his grandchildren. He loved his time spent in the hockey arena as a coach and referee when his boys, Trent and Todd played Pee Wee hockey.
Eugene was the perfect husband, father and family man and will forever be in the hearts of his loving wife, Shirley, his sons, Trent (Sandra), Todd (Kelly), his daughters, Laurie (Mike), Leah (Stanley) and grandchildren, Nicole, Samantha, Kirsten, Kyle, Reid and Layne to forever love and cherish their time together.
