Elsie Mae Harrington Obituary
Elsie Mae Harrington passed away peacefully early in the morning on April 26, 2024.
She was born to Roy and Rosie Warden on September 18, 1936 in Condor, Alberta, but grew up as the happily adopted daughter of Norman and Millie Eastman in Calgary, Alberta, attending Crescent Heights High School. She married Bill (William) Harrington on New Year’s Eve, 1953. She was a romantic and published their story in Canadian Living magazine in 1990. She was a devout Christian and, for several years, wrote a weekly column for CrossTies, a newsletter at her church. She deeply and intentionally loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved playing the piano, painting/drawing, writing creative stories, spending time with family, waterskiing, swimming, walking, playing boggle, going to movies, reading a good fiction novel, going out for ice cream, getting her hair done, and having someone do her makeup. Elsie recently celebrated seventy years of marriage with Bill and family and friends.
Elsie was a loving, loyal, creative, sentimental and smartly dressed woman, but first and foremost she was a devoted wife and mother to Dawn (Murry), Bobby (Cindy), Lori (Dave), and Cindy (Tim; Cindy passed away in 2016). She is survived by Bill and their thirty-seven grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. The family wants to thank the staff of Seasons Retirement Community in High River for their exceptional care during these last few months, especially Jennifer and Rachel.
A memorial service will be held at the Calgary Church of Christ, 4030 Maryvale Drive NE, Calgary, on Saturday, June 1st at 2PM. We request no flowers and, in the spirit of Elsie’s desire to dress smartly, all women are encouraged to dress up.
