Ellen Fern (Beazer) Prince passed away in the Cardston General Hospital on Tuesday March 12, 2024 at the age of 100 years. This world has lost an exemplary and beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend. While there is worldly sorrow to see her move on, there is joy in knowing that she is now reunited with family and loved ones and lives in an inconceivably beautiful and happy place.
Ellen was the third of ten children, and was raised in the beautiful hills of Beazer, Alberta. She was predeceased by her parents Del and Vinnie Beazer, her husband Dennis, and siblings Scott Beazer, June Webster, Ruby Pierson and Joyce Peterson. She is survived by her siblings Hazel Gibb, Harry Beazer, Heber Beazer, Gerald Beazer and Murray Beazer. As a teammate of the Beazer Family ranch team she learned the value and importance of hard work and doing your part. She was one of those rare teammates who didn’t seek the limelight but made her fellow teammates better. While working as a school teacher in Hartley, Alberta she met her eternal Prince, Dennis, of Glenwood, Alberta. They were married on November 15, 1944. They were equally and happily yoked for a lifetime devoted to family and faith. Their first two sons, Terry and Blaine, were born prematurely and lived about one day each. After a blessing, prayers and promises, they were blessed to have 10 more children; Greg (Sandra), Janis (Dan), Bruce (Becky), Joanne (John), Jim (Karen), Beverly (Brent), Mary Ellen (Craig), Shauna (Dave), Sharon (Troy) and Dennis Scott (Jan). Ellen leaves behind ten children, 47 grandchildren, 112 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
As VP of Operations in a hectic household of twelve people, one car and one bathroom, she fulfilled her duties with calm competence-master chef, compassionate nurse, judge and jury, project and calendar coordinator, listener, conflict resolver, mayhem mitigator and dispenser of love and assurance.
Ellen was a lady of stalwart faith. Together, Dennis and Ellen had the courage and integrity to live that faith within and without the walls of their home. She diligently fulfilled many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Dennis and she served a mission to Kelowna, B.C. She taught by example. She was a loyal friend.
Ellen was blessed with talents which she enjoyed and shared. She was a beautiful singer, singing in many quartets, groups and choirs. Dennis and Ellen sang beautiful duets at countless wedding receptions and events over the years. Ellen had a talent to see potential and make things (and people) around her better. She was artistic and creative. She went to auction sales and bought wool coats, cloth and left over material and used furniture. She formed them into beautiful hand braided rugs, expertly hand stitched quilts and refinished furniture of beauty and quality. All of her children and grandchildren received the gift of a handstitched quilt at their weddings. The homes of her family and friends are graced with her handiwork of embroidery, needlepoint, knitting and crocheting. Dennis and Ellen felt directed to build a home to house their family and these creations, so they led their family on an inspired 15 year adventure. Trees were felled in the mountains, barked, shaped and assembled into a log home with room for everyone and everything. It is close to the beloved foothills and mountains of southern Alberta. It is a gathering place where the legacy of family and faith continues to be felt.
Because Ellen is so loved her mortal passing causes mourning, but there is the blessing of a lifetime of wonderful memories. She has had a joyful reunion with Dennis, Terry, Blaine and many others. She has received a hug of perfect love from her Heavenly Father, who doubtless said, “Well done my good and faithful daughter, welcome home”.
The family expresses appreciation to all who were so helpful at the Cardston General Hospital, home care and the Chinook Lodge over the years.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel in Glenwood, Alberta on Saturday March 16 at 1pm. Friends and relatives may meet the family from 12:00 to 12:45pm.
