Obituary For William (Bill) Orest Nychka
September 1, 1939 – September 2, 2024
William (Bill) Orest Nychka, resident of Grande Prairie, formerly of the Beaverlodge area, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2024, in Grande Prairie, at the age of 85 years.
Bill was born on September 1, 1939, in Mundare, Alberta, to Taras and Mary Nychka. A year later, the family relocated to a farm just east of Beaverlodge. Growing up, Bill loved the farm life and after completing 2 years at “tech” school (now SAIT) in Calgary, he was ready to start building his own farm. He tried many different pursuits, but over time, focused on growing pedigreed seed grain and raising cattle. In 1970, Bill married Monica (Nikki) Moreau and to this union four children were born.
With years of dedication and hard work, Bill grew a successful farming operation. He was proud of the farm he built and in 1998, was honoured with the farm family of the year award.
Bill loved to be outdoors. He was always eager to go hunting or fishing and had many stories to tell about these outings and adventures.
In 2006, Bill met his second partner, Carol Bailey, and moved from his Beaverlodge home to Grande Prairie. Together they enjoyed traveling, camping, music and dancing, visits with friends, and playing cards, especially crib.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his devoted spouse, Carol; his children, Romi (Ryan), Devan (Stacey), Cole (Kelly) and Renee (Frank); grandsons, Cole (Carly), Seth, Hugh and Owen; one brother, Jerry; and Carol’s family, Chris, Michelle, Rylen and Brayden.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nikki; granddaughter, Emily; parents, Taras and Mary; one brother Dave and his sister Sharon.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes, family and friends are encouraged to celebrate his life by sharing treasured memories of fun times spent together.
A life well lived. Rest in peace dearest Bill.
