Obituary For Stuart “Duncan” Rousay
It is with great sadness that we announce that Stuart “Duncan” Rousay, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Miramichi, NB, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the age of 80 years.
Duncan was born on September 17, 1943, in Yorkton, SK to John Alexander Rousay and Velma Marion Rousay (nee Kennedy). He left the family farm at the age of 17 years to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a Military Police Officer. During his 26 year career, he was stationed across Canada and Germany. In his travels and years of service he made many great friends and memories.
It was while stationed in Ottawa, ON, that he met the love of his life, Nicole Paquette; he loved her like no other. They married in 1964 and brought three beautiful daughters into this world. The most important thing in his life was to see his family smile. He embodied the best qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen by his entire family and strangers alike.
In his formative years he was quite athletic; he enjoyed playing hockey, softball, golf and curling. In his later years you would often find him on the golf course. After retirement, one of Duncan’s career highlights was becoming a College Instructor in the protective services department, putting his many years of experience to good use. He taught in both New Brunswick and Alberta. Duncan spent the last twenty or more years in Alberta with his family. He continued to work well into his 70’s, for the City of Grande Prairie and for the former Disabled Transportation Society.
Duncan was preceded in death by his loving wife Nicole in 1994.
Duncan will be dearly missed by his three daughters: Paula Van Buskirk (James), Elaine Mills (Marc), Lisa Rousay (Alan); son-in-law Donnie Mills; four grandchildren: Tanya Oliver (Alex), Curtis Van Buskirk (Tannis), Amanda Mills, Tiffany O’Connor (Bernie); five great-grandchildren: Emma, Claire, Juliette, Lincoln and Harvey; siblings: Betty Sigurdson, Bob Rousay and Susan Pohl and their families.
The family is forever grateful for the invaluable support shown by Duncan’s friends at Wildrose Manor, surrounding him with love in his last few months. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Akolo for the outstanding level of care he gave Duncan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Oliver’s Funeral Home (10005 – 107 Ave). Family and friends are invited to come and share fond memories and stories of a life so well lived.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in Duncan’s honor to the charity of your choosing.
