Obituary For Monte James Gregg
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Monte James Gregg. He passed away unexpectedly at his home in Grande Prairie, Alberta on November 23, 2023, at the age of 81.
Monte was born in Carberry Manitoba, the second child of John and Mildred Gregg. Monte was raised and completed his education in Winnipeg, Manitoba, eventually moving west to Calgary, Alberta. It was in Calgary, where Monte met his wife Tress and they were married in 1977. During their 42 years of marriage they adopted their 2 children Darren and Corrine.
Monte worked as a Draftsman for Husky Energy and it was his career that took the family to Rainbow Lake AB and Lloydminster AB. Monte cherished his time and the friendships he made in Rainbow Lake which is where he returned to finish his career. Following retirement Monte and Tress made their final move to Grande Prairie to be close to their children.
Monte always had a passion for community which led him to a lifetime of volunteering with organizations such as the Rainbow Lake Fire Department, Victim Services and the JDA Kings Hockey team. Monte also loved sports, he played softball, golfed and curled and when living in Rainbow Lake he could often be found at the curling club either skipping a game or enjoying a rye and coke. Monte also enjoyed traveling and enjoyed many trips with family and friends.
Monte was predeceased by his father, John Gregg, mother, Mildred Gregg, mother and father in-law Georgina and Kenneth Sampson and the love of his life Tress.
Monte will forever be remembered for his love of life, his sense of humor and an abundance of wild stories. He will be forever missed by his son Darren, daughter Corrine (James), brother Warren (Bonnie), brother in-law Norman (Lynne), dear friend Judy and many other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday December 7, 2023 at 2pm at Bear Creek Funeral Home 11802 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
