Obituary For Mary Luciel Himer
September 26, 1938 – November 26, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Luciel Himer (McLelland) at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital on Sunday, November 26th, at the age of 85 years.
Mary was born in Demaine, Saskatchewan, on September 26th, 1938, to Willbert and Lillie McLelland. Mary was the 15th of 16 children. In 1942, Mary lost her mother in a tragic accident. The family then moved a few times before settling in Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, in 1950.
Mary moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta, and worked at the Royal Café where she met Gordon Himer. They married in 1957, and had 5 children: Don, Ken, Darlene, Joyce, and Dana.
Mary later worked at G.P. Cleaners and G.P. Answering Service. This was a great place for her because she loved to talk to people. Her greatest passion, however, was sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren. Mary loved going for long walks and always had a puzzle on the go. She was also a whiz at Jeopardy.
Mary loved her many pets that she had over the years. Most came to her when they had no home to call their own. She was always taking in strays and giving them a loving home.
Mary is survived by her sister Barb Barringham, her children Ken, Darlene (Darrell Rose), Joyce (Richard Blais), and Dana. She is also survived by her grandchildren Andrea (Lance Casson), Nathan, Amber (Cory McNeil), and Jason, her great-grandchildren Leighton, Leo, and Zoe, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was pre-deceased by her parents Willbert and Lillie, 14 of her siblings, her husband Gordon, her son Don, and her grandson Adam.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in 2024.
