Obituary For Everett Larson
March 26, 1933 – January 20, 2024
Everett or Ev as he was known to most, was born on March 26,1933 on the family farm near Hagen Saskatchewan. As a young man he helped on the farm and played hockey for the Birch Hills team. He was always making equipment out of 2 x 4’s and playing with them amongst the trees at the farm.
This love of moving dirt led to a job in 1949 with Les Skaar in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, building roads. Around 1954 he followed his good friends, Doran Stewart and Cliff Skaar to northern British Columbia. Ev spent many holidays with the Stewart family. He is Uncle Ev to Doran and Mary’s children: Rodger, Lloyd, Tom, Brenda, Everett and Clint. After working for McMahon Construction, he took a job with Bruce Rome Construction out of Fort Nelson in 1955/56. He eventually became a partner and the company sold in 1975. Ev and Dick Doyle started Kledo Construction in 1977. Ev knew how to weld, repair equipment, kept the shop clean and everything had its place. At the height of his career, he was managing over 80 staff. He retired at 58 years old. His son, Michael and Dick’s oldest son took over Kledo in the 90’s.
Ev and Rose’s early retirement years were spent traveling in one of Ev’s many RV’s. Ev and Rose eventually settled in West Bank, BC. Ev’s nephew Dean Solheim (Barb) built their retirement dream home on Goldenview Drive. They reconnected with Ev’s family around the Okanagan and Ronnie and Linda who they knew from the north. Met Alma and Sparky who became close friends and travelling companions. Ev was able to rekindle the close childhood bond he shared with cousin Leif Larson. He spent many hours on the lake with his boat and they entertained family, friends and sometimes friends of friends in their home.
Ev and Rose joined a Motorhome Club, traveling through Canada and the United States, attending many rallies. They enjoyed many trips with his brother Moe and sister-in-law Denise. This included a trip back to their dad’s homeland of Norway, meeting numerous relatives. They eventually wintered in Yuma, first in an RV park and then purchasing a home close to the many friends they had made. They have many fond memories hosting parties; such as Super bowl, heel parties, trips to casinos and zipping into Los Algodones, Mexico where he purchased his first “Rolex”.
Ev was a very generous and hardworking man. He loved cars, keeping them clean and well maintained, rarely lending them out. He loved watching hockey and baseball. In fact, he had multiple TV’s to not miss any games. Ev sat in his chair swiveling between the screens. Ev was a quiet observer of life. He loved barbecuing, we will always remember him as the King of the Grill, and he cooked a mean breakfast too. Ev loved driving around, looking at homes and the scenery with Rose always by his side trying to snap pictures out of the moving vehicle. She once had to take a trip for a week without him. He said never again do you go anywhere without me; he missed her so much. Ev and Rose were happily married for almost 48 years.
In September 2019 Ev suffered a massive stroke. He spent the last years of his life in the care of the Lakeview Lodge. We will always be grateful for the care he received. Ev passed away peacefully in his room on January 20th, 2024.
Ev was predeceased by his parents Bjorn and Esther as well as his brother Gerald.
He is survived by his loving wife Rose, his children Karlene (Gary), Michael (Colleen), Valerie, Dean (Shelley), and Doran, his siblings Marion, Louie, Moe, Ann and Avis, his grandchildren Devon, Sydney, Laurel, Karlee, Jordon, Michael, Katie and Joey, his greatgrandchildren Dawson, Duncan, Paityn, Angus, Cody and Owen, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
