Obituary For Don Friesen
Donald George Friesen passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2024, only a few weeks after gracefully accepting that God was calling him home. Don was born in Steinbach, Manitoba on July 21, 1934 to Reverend Peter D. Friesen and Margaret (nee Rempel), the second of six children.
Don found his way out west with his bride, Anne, and their children Arlene, Gerald, and Wendell, eventually settling in Grande Prairie where Doug and Tamela completed their family. Over the years Don enjoyed driving truck for Canadian Freightways and Northern Bottling, and then transit for the City of Grande Prairie.
After his retirement, Don and Anne spent several years living in their fifth-wheel. They volunteered all winter at Wycliffe in Catalina, Arizona and came home to Alberta every summer. During those years they welcomed many travelers as they hosted at campsites from Moonshine Lake to Kananaskis.
Even in the last few weeks of his life, Don lifted his beautiful tenor voice to praise God for the gifts of this life. When he wasn’t singing, he was making everyone around him laugh with his characteristic sharp wit.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Margaret, his brothers Al and Vern, his sister Mary Ann Warkentin, and his infant daughter Barbara Faith. He will be deeply missed by his wife Anne (nee Klassen), children Arlene (Mansel Jones), Gerald (Cathy), Wendell (Wanda), Doug (Eunice), and Tamela Friesen, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM (viewing at 10 AM) at High River Baptist Church in High River, Alberta.
For our Grande Prairie friends, a Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Bear Creek Funeral Home in Grande Prairie, Alberta. You are near and dear to our hearts, and Anne is looking forward to seeing you there.
