Obituary For Cynthia Coffin
Cynthia Grace Matilda Coffin
1958-2024
It is with shattered hearts, deep sorrow, and much love that we mourn the passing of Cynthia Coffin, of Seldom Come by and Labrador City, on August 28th at the age of 66. Cynthia passed away in her home in Grande Prairie, AB with her husband by her side holding her hand.
Cynthia Coffin was a cherished woman. She was known for her kindness, love for her family, sarcastic comments, thoughtfulness, care and FaceTime calls. She would go above and beyond for those she loved. Having Cynthia love you meant you always had someone in your corner, someone to tell you right from wrong, someone to forgive all mistakes, someone who always checked in, and someone who loved you unconditionally.
Her illness has been a long process but her pain in the end was short. Her children, Jodi and Mark, and husband, Leonard, have been there beside her with love and support the entire journey. The family and grandchildren gave her so much joy and fulfillment that helped ease her pain and give her comfort.
Her departure has left us with an unfillable void. We are all better people for knowing her. She has imprinted on us and taught us all to love deeply, connect with those you love often and, stay sassy as it brings everyone laughter.
Cynthia was predeceased by her father, Frank Harnett; her brother, Christopher Harnett; her sister, Mona Sheppard; her nephew, Bradley Bixby; her grandparents, Christopher and Elizabeth Harnett; her grandparents, Andrew and Matilda; her father-in-law, Roderick Coffin; her brother in laws, Scott Heath and Mike Martin.
Leaving to mourn are her husband Leonard Coffin; her two children, Jodi (Chad) Boone and Mark ( Erin) Coffin; four treasured grandchildren, Katelynn Boone, Alex Coffin, Nate Coffin and Emery Coffin; her mother, Ivy Harnett; her siblings, Betty-Lou Torraville (Ron), Joanne Freake ( Morley), Susan Heath, Dion Harnett, Nigel (Natasha) Harnett, Andrew ( Krista) Harnett and Amy ( Edmund) Reardon; her mother in law, Mary Coffin; her aunt, Edith ( Dan) Jeanotte; her brothers and sisters in law, Judy Martin, Edna ( Tom) O’Keefe, Jeff ( Paulette) Coffin, Paul (Sharon) Coffin and Lisa (John) Goodyear; friends that became family: Irene(Hardy) Rice, Donna( Emerson) Coish, Helen ( Dolph) Abbott, Bernice Dodge, Marg (Morris) Sullivan, Betty (Alex) Harnett, Vanessa Cobb, Lisa ( Ramsey) Jenkins, Dawn( Jaime) Kennedy, as well as many nieces and nephews plus a huge circle of close friends.
Cynthia was born in Seldom Come by, Newfoundland on July 26th, 1958. She grew up in a loving home, being the eldest of a family of 10 children. She graduated high school and married the love of her life a couple years later. Cynthia and Leonard started their married life together in Labrador City, NL in 1976. They were blessed with their first child, Jodi Lynn Coffin in 1978. Their second child, Mark Leonard Coffin was born in 1982. Cynthia was a stay-at-home mom until 1991. Her love not only surrounded her children but extended to many of her children’s friends and the children she babysat. A few comments recently we were honored to hear were:
“She was a second mom to all your buddies growing up, and one of the best at it”
“She took care of me like one of her own”
“You were like a Nan to my girls, and you will be missed”
“You are so special to us and treated us like your own”
“The mom who looked out for everyone in the neighborhood”
“She never ended a facetime call without saying I Love You”
In 1991, Cynthia began working at ‘The Perfect Gift’. She had a work ethic that was flawless. She enjoyed the laughter this chapter brought to her life and always put all of herself into anything she did.
By 2003, she started her next chapter. She babysat for the next 13 years, which kept her support and love to the children of the neighborhood continuing.
Cynthia and Leonard then moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta to be closer to their children and grandchildren in 2018. This is where Cynthia felt comfort with being back with her babies. She adored her family, and they always brought her so much joy until her last breath. We would like to send out a special thanks to Grande Prairie home care nurses,
Dr. Olumide Ojodun and her respite worker, Naty King. She was given such care, attention and love that it helped support the entire family.
To honor the legacy of Cynthia Coffin we ask that you spread the kindness she has always showed and donate to the MS society (mscanada.ca).
A memorial service will be held on Thursday September 5th at 1:00 at Bear Creek Funeral Home (11802 99 Ave). For all those loved ones from afar there will be a virtual option if you would like to attend. Please find link below.
As Cynthia would always say “I love you to the moon and back”. In her memory, we ask you hold your loved ones dear and love them to the moon and back.
