It is with profound sorrow and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Connie McGovern on January. 29th, 2024 in Grande Prairie Alberta at the age of 62.
Connie will be forever remembered by her loving husband Gary McGovern, daughter Lexi Rix, son in law Grant, granddaughters Deja, Reve, and Romi Rix, mother Laurette Christensen, sisters Laurel Christensen, and Colette Marcotte, mother-in-law Florence McGovern, brothers in law Mark Marcotte, Dwain McGovern, Bob McGovern, sister-in-law Val McGovern, along with all her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Connie joins her father Orville Christensen, father-in-law Andy McGovern and her beautiful daughter Jaysea who has been an angel patiently waiting 10 years to be reunited with her loving mother.
Connie has countless friends that will be greatly impacted by her passing. Her generosity, compassion, honesty, and guidance has been instrumental in the many lives that she touched throughout her journey. Connie’s close friends truly were like family to her and were always a cornerstone of her life. “To have good friends you have to be a good friend.”
Connie’s giving spirit has helped shape the community that she grew up in and lived in her entire life. She was passionate about doing her part and always supported the community that supported her.
Gary and Connie met in 1975 at the ages of 16 & 15, it truly was love at first sight. A beautiful life was built together with a foundation of love, respect, and hard work. They shared these pillars with their daughters, instilling those same values into their beloved granddaughters whom Connie doted on and loved more than anything. Forty-nine years together is a truly amazing accomplishment that underscores their devotion and passion for each other and their family.
Connie cherished her relationships and would go above and beyond to reach out, stay in touch, and was always available for a quick chat or a lengthy conversation. Connie loved to socialize and have fun at all her favorite events, never missing an opportunity to get on the dance floor with Gary where they would two step the night away. Music was always a huge part of their lives dancing together right till the end.
Connie passed due to complications during her short fight with brain cancer; she passed peacefully surrounded by her closest family. A beautiful, strong, passionate, honest, kind, glamourous woman she set the gold standard for how to live a life the right way.
