Obituary For Carolyn McLeod
November 18, 1940 – April 5, 2024
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mom, Carolyn McLeod, on April 5, 2024, at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, surrounded by the great loves of her life, her children, and grandchildren.
Carolyn was born on November 18, 1940 in smith, Alberta to Adolf and Mary Sorken and was the oldest of five children. She grew up on the farm in Teepee Creek, attending Teepee Creek School for the first 11 years and then went on to Grande Prairie for Grade 12. In 1958 she met and married Roderick McLeod. They resided in Teepee Creek where they raised their four children. Mom wore many hats over the years, from being the custodian at the Teepee Creek school, to owning and operating the smith Service Station and the Teepee Creek Store. She then decided to tum her great talent of baking and cooking into a job and starting cooking in camps. In 1998 she battled and beat a severe case of meningitis and after that she moved into the senior cottages in Bezanson. She started work at Leftys cafe where she met and maintained so many wonderful friends, especially her morning coffee boys.
Mom was kind and loving and a great listener with a sense of humour. She was dedicated to her family as we were her world. When her grandchildren started to arrive Mom became very well known in Teepee and Bezanson as “Grandma” and that was probably her most proud hat to wear.
Carolyn will be loving remembered by her daughters, Marylyn McLeod, Ellie (Stu) Cartwright and Bobbie (Calvin) Moody and daughter-in-law Theresa McLeod, her grandchildren, Kristin (Gord) Kelsey, Kim (Paul) Therrien, Jerry (Danelle) Moody, Kelly Moody and Britney Moody, Jordan Cartwright, Jesse Cartwright and Cassidy McLeod (Cody Moen)) Tyler Cartwright, Whitney (Terence) George and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Adele (Leslie) Fraser and Linda (Ray) Ogden and sister-in-law Alva Sorken and many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Adolf and Mary, our dad, Roderick McLeod, sister Marilyn Hill, brother Tom Sorken, son Wade McLeod and great grandson Kaiden.
Mom’s Celebration of Life will be held at the smith Civic Centre located at 9929-100 Street, smith, Alberta on Monday, April 15th at 1:00
