Obituary For Bruno DeCosta
It is with extreme sadness and complete heartbreak that we share the news of the sudden passing of Bruno DeCosta, age 85, on May 6, 2024.
Bruno was a beloved husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was the youngest of six children, born and raised in Drumheller, AB. He spent his entire career with AGT (which became Telus), working throughout Alberta, eventually settling down in Grande Prairie in 1972.
He loved being surrounded by his family, puttering in his woodworking shop and around the acreage, playing poker, and swinging on the deck swing with our Mom. He was an avid reader, enjoyed watching the stock market and more recently, became interested in coin collecting. If you were lucky enough to catch a whiff of cigar smoke, you knew his calming presence was nearby and all was right in the world.
He leaves behind a family who are devastated and miss him dearly: his wife of 49 years (together for 55 years) and the love of his life, our beautiful mama, Alice DeCosta. His youngest daughter, Crystal DeCosta and her husband and beloved son-in-law, Rob Yager. Myself, his eldest daughter, Catharine DeCosta and my husband and beloved son-in-law, Terry Borko and his three treasured grandchildren, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Sam Borko; along with numerous nephews and nieces. The last of his family to be called home, Bruno was predeceased by parents, Caterina and Paolo, brothers Angelo, Antonino and Tomasso; and sisters, Phyllis and Francis. Here’s to hoping the original DeCosta’s are having a wonderful family reunion. He has left a hole in our hearts and that of countless other friends and family who loved him as much as we did.
Our Dad was a talented skeet and trap shooter; he represented Canada at the 1972 Munich Olympics, along with two Pan-American Games. He spent many happy days at gun clubs, in particular the Wapiti Shooters Club. Therefore we invite you to join us at the Wapiti Shooters Club in Grande Prairie, AB on Saturday July 6th, 2024 @ 2:00pm as we honor and celebrate the amazing life of Bruno DeCosta. If you are able to attend, please RSVP to bdcelebrationoflife@gmail.com so that we can properly manage seating and food.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation jdrf.ca/ – an organization that was close to his heart because of his eldest granddaughter’s type 1 diabetes diagnosis (2015) or Ronald McDonald Charities Alberta www.rmhcalberta.org – an organization he was connected to through the Shoot for the House event and also, where his youngest daughter works.
