Obituary For Andrew Gill
May 25, 1959 – September 30, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, our brother, and our friend, Andrew Gill. Andrew passed away at the age of 65 on September 30, 2024.
Andrew was born in Chesterfield, England, to his mother and father Margaret Robson and Alwyn Gill. Andrew grew up in England and spent a portion of his formative years in school there. Eventually, he and his parents immigrated to Canada where they settled in Grande Cache, AB. Andrew finished his schooling in Grande Cache and started his career as a miner at the local coal mine.
During the time he spent in Grande Cache, he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betsy) Daynes on June 21, 1980. They spent the next 43 years together, going on adventures, camping, and enjoying time with the family they created together until Betsy’s passing in November of 2023.
Andrew was a man of many talents and interests. In his early years, he enjoyed playing soccer or going for a night on the town with Betsy, dancing and enjoying music. He loved music and often was the DJ for dances and Christmas parties. He was always up to date with the newest music whether that was records or cd’s. He hosted many parties for New Years, birthdays and after ball tournaments. Andrew always had a pub or a bar downstairs in every home that he owned. As he got older, he would spend his time as a handyman- fixing vehicles and putting learned carpentry skills to use. On the weekends, he would watch golf, learn a new cooking recipe, or build model train sets. His family was important to him, and his most recent dogs Emma, Johnny and Lucy were a part of the family.
Andrew will be greatly missed by his children Andrea Gill, Alan (Danika) Gill, and Chad (Lindsey) Gill, his siblings Robert (Lorri) Gill and Elaine (Perry) Kirkeby, his stepdad Tom Robson and stepsiblings Lorraine (Johnathan) Dixon, Tony (Paulette) Robson and Diane (Tony) Jackson-Robson. He will also be missed by his grandkids Madison, Sydney, Ethan Ford, Carter and Ava Gill, and Kiel and Theoren Gill, and his best friend Kevin Wilson, as well as numerous other close family and friends.
Andrew was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Betsy) Gill, mother Margaret Robson and father Alwyn Gill, and his best friend Larry James.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 27th, 2024, at the Big Horn Golden Age Club in Grande Cache (9702 104 Avenue) beginning at 12pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Cross Cancer Institute (albertacancer.ca) in Andrew’s memory.
