It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Thomas “Tommy” Andrew Hunt on July 24, 2024, in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Tommy was born to Dorothy Short and Clayton Hunt on September 16, 1979, in Carbonear, Newfoundland. He spent his younger years in Newfoundland. Tommy could often be seen enthusiastically listening to Nirvana, watching a Toronto Maple Leaf’s game, playing a soccer match or curling.
As he grew older Tommy attended Memorial University in Newfoundland. It was here he studied Psychology. Following his time at the university he moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta, where he became a Education Assistant with the Catholic School Board.
At age 27 he welcomed his first daughter, Em into the world, about two years after he was blessed again with his second daughter, Abby. They where the light of his life. He cherished every memory with them. If either girl was competing in an event or school function you could be sure to see Tommy flitting around the area with a camera, capturing the magic of the event.
He has always believed a good education can open doors and provide a wonderful life. He instilled this idea into his girls, often saying “Do everything to better yourself now, you can f*** around later” in reference to them pursuing their education.
In 2010 he took up a part time job at Save on Foods. This would turn out to be a life change decision. While working at the grocery store, he met and fell in love with Aliann in 2014. A short four years later in 2018 he proposed at a Leaf’s game, and three moths later they married under a Blue Moon with friends and family present. They loved each other deeply.
While he may a been a bit of a nerd Tommy was also an outdoors man. He loved to spend his days out on the lake kayaking and fishing. If he wasn’t on the water, he was out hunting with is friend of 40yrs Brad. They mostly hunted grouse, but were known to hunt deer, boar, and even bear. His first bear can be seen proudly mounted on his wall at home.
Tommy was a bit of a Nonna in disguise. If you came to visit his home he’d insist you join the family for a meal. Always checking if you’d had enough to eat. The food was always incredible too. He loved cooking on his smoker and sharing new recipes with friends and family.
Outside of feeding anyone who was hungry he was the kind of guy who’d give you the shirt of his back if he knew you needed it. He cared deeply about his friends and family and was always ready and able to help is an emergency arose.
Tommy will me missed beyond measure. He was an incredible father, a doting husband, devoted son, and amazing friend.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the Fort McMurray SPCA or to Santa’s Anonymous.
