Laurier’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Laurier Thomas Mercier on November 14, 2023 at the age of 89. Laurier was a long time resident of Donnelly, Alberta. Laurier was born November 25, 1933 at Fairview, Alberta to Anna and Alonzo Mercier, he was the third of 7 children.
Laurier, also known to many as Tom, moved to Donnelly from Edmonton in 1944 with his parents and siblings. He graduated from the Donnelly Consolidated School in 1951. He worked as bookkeeper, and then as a Snap-On Tools salesman. In the early 1960’s he formed a company, Mercier and Doyle, with his brother in law Ronald, this partnership lasted until they retired in 1996.
Laurier was predeceased by his wife, Irene (2008), his father Alonzo Mercier (1979), mother Anna Dentinger (1989), brother Raymond (2005), sister Annette (2019), sister Pauline (2023), sisters in law Cecile Mercier (2007) and Lilian Paul Béland (2019) and brothers in law Georges Dufour (2007) and Gerard Béland (2021).
He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Thibault, brothers Marcel and Gilbert (Viviane) Mercier and his sister Lucille (Walter) Sherris.
Funeral services for the late Laurier Mercier will be held Saturday November 25, 2023 at Paroisse du Sacré-Coeur Church in Donnelly at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Palliative Care at the Sacred Heart Hospital in McLennan. Yvonne and the family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the hospital for the care and compassion given to Laurier during his stay.
Interment to follow at the Paroisse du Sacré-Coeur Cemetery Donnelly, AB.
