Kenneth James McDonald, 99, of Fairview, AB
Ken McDonald went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, May 26, 2024, after a short illness.
Ken was born to Stanley and Nellie McDonald on April 13, 1925 in Woodstock, ON and grew up on a farm near Embro, ON. He met and fell in love with a lovely young girl, Marion(Cochrane). They married on March 1,1952 and shortly thereafter moved to Fairview to begin their 62 year life together. Sons, John and Larry were born in Fairview and then the family relocated to Summerland, BC. Daniel and Sheri joined the family there and after moving back to Fairview, their youngest son, Gordon was born.
Ken was a loving father, a leader in the Christian community and a carpenter by trade. He was totally involved with the hockey community, coaching, traveling with the boys’ teams and volunteering at the arena. Ken showed his religious commitment in many ways. He helped build the Fairview Gospel Chapel by hand, built many structures at David Thompson Bible Camp and was involved with the youth group and services at the Chapel on a daily basis. Ken was a carpenter/contractor for Cunningham Carpentry and his own company, Quality Wood Products. In the 1970’s, he shared his amazing skills and knowledge when he taught in the apprenticeship carpentry program at Fairview College. Ken was well-known and respected for his quality workmanship in a variety of building projects in and around Fairview.
Leisure time for Ken meant riding his motorcycle, golfing and spending time with the family. He loved to challenge the kids and grandkids to rousing scrabble games, puzzles and riddles. He was always there to lend a kind ear and a joke when surrounded by family and friends.
Ken will be sorely missed by his children: John (Agnes), Larry (Cathy), Dan (Linda), and Sheri (Dave) Hepworth. Grandchildren: Taryn (Clint) Carrell, Mike (Jodi), Erin (Ray) Avignon, Patrick (Britta), Scott (Billi), David (Lisa) Hepworth, Bob (Amy), Carmella Hepworth, Kerry-Jo (Nathan) Benjamin, Danielle (Chris) Wolfe, Tiffany Hepworth, Kent (Daina), Christine (Giovanni) Devellis, Ryan (Janelle), Katren Hepworth (Timothy Nyugen), Caeley Hepworth, Samuel Hepworth and Thomas Hepworth. He also leaves behind 23 great-grandchildren.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Marj, his wife, Marion, son, Gord, daughter-in-law, Stephanie and great-grandson, Fraser Carrell.
