Edward (Eddie) Lueken Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Eddie Lueken announces his passing on May 19, 2024 at the age of 80 years old.
Eddie was born and raised in Fairview, Alberta. He was the third child of August and Elizabeth Lueken. As the eldest boy, he was his father’s right-hand man on their mixed farm. After graduating from Saint Thomas More School he entered the workforce to make money to eventually start his own grain farm. Eddie’s first job out of high school was working on the oil rigs. From there, he worked for The Alberta Government doing Prairie Farm Assistance applications for farmers. After that, Eddie became the manager of the Fairview Seed Cleaning Plant. He married his wife, Dora Koch, in November of 1966. They had 4 children: Dale, Donny, Jody, and Terry. In 1971, Eddie and Dora purchased the farm, where Eddie lived until his passing. They purchased the homestead of the Weiss brothers in 1971 and moved his family from the town of Fairview in 1971. Eddie loved farming and took great pride in their farm and the crops they grew.
Eddie worked hard but managed to make time for pleasure. He loved to travel; he would drive anywhere a road would take him, and crop touring was one of his favorite things to do. Every summer, he and Dora packed up the kids and the camper and would go on holidays for 2-3 weeks. They would get home just in time to swath the fescue. Eddie loved the outdoors; some of the best times of his life were spent with his friends and family, either hunting, fishing, quadding, or sledding. Eddie was a social butterfly and enjoyed visiting with people he knew and with complete strangers. With the help from Dora, they entertained many people, and their door was always open. He particularly enjoyed entertaining family and friends who came from Germany.
Eddie was an active member of the Third and Fourth-degree Knights of Columbus, The Fairview Lions Club, and The Fairview Pioneer Museum.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Dora Lueken. His son Dale (Joyce), grandchildren Darian, Matthew, Abigail, and Hilary. His Daughter Jody (John) Fingerhut, grandchildren Mackenzie, and Monica. His son Terry (Tracy), grandchildren Shelby and Kayla. His sisters Caroline (Louis) Kronast; Frieda (Mervin) Watchorn; Elsie (Gordie) Duvall, and his sister in law Dorthy Lueken, and brother in law Bill Watchorn, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Eddie is predeceased by his son Donny. His parents, August and Elizabeth Lueken. His sister, Hilda Watchorn, and brother, Joe Lueken.
The family would like to send their sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff of the Fairview Hospital, and Fairview Medical Clinic for the excellent care Eddie received while in the hospital.
The Funeral For Eddie Lueken will be held at the Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Fairview, Alberta, on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at 10:00 am. The prayer service will be held Friday, May 31st, at 7:00 pm at the Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Fairview, Alberta. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
