Cecil’s Obituary
Long time resident of Worsley (AB), Cecil Wilfred Budd, passed away June 6th, 2024 at the Grande Prairie hospital with his loving grandchildren by his side, after a long battle with Leukemia.
Born in Fairview (AB) on April 9, 1936, Cecil was one of eight children born to Russel and Winifred Budd who had moved to the Fairview area from Cecil Lake (BC). Cecil was an active child and participated in athletics when he was in school in Fairview. After school he worked as a farm hand for Stirlings, in a lumber yard at Canfor, and spent the majority of his life as a cat skinner/operator for various construction companies in the area, including Olsens, Danny Hein, Basnett Brothers, McMillan, and Ben Basnett eventually retiring after working for Maury Basnett in 2005.
On October 20th 1959, Cecil married the love of his life Joanie Budd (Girvan), and set out raising daughter Barbara Dous (Budd) moving wherever the work took them, from Chetwyn to Prince George, BC, and eventually settling in the Montagneuse Valley. In 1995 they sold the farm and moved to their acreage west of Worsley so they could be closer to their family. Only wanting to be semi retired, Cecil and Joanie started COAN Enterprises, a joint venture caring for local campsites in the area including Sulphur Lake, Stoney Lake, Running Lake, and Ole’s lake.
Cecil was a tinkerer and was always in the shop building or fixing something, an excellent welder and problem solver he created many useful tools for the farm. He also loved to fish and spending weekends at Rainbow Trout Park, Winagami Lake and Heart River Dam; teaching the grandkids how to fish held a special place in his heart.
Cecil is predeceased by his mother and father, Russel and Winifred Budd, his siblings, John Everett, Orville, Stan, Shirley, Rose and Ronnie, his loving wife Joanie Budd (Girvan), and his daughter Barbara Dous (Budd).
He is survived by his sister Elsie; son-in-law Brad Dous; grandchildren Jody (Kevin), Brandon (Pheonix); great-grandchildren Shayla and Chayce, as well as many extended family members.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 from Eureka River Hall at 1:00pm.
Luncheon to follow.
