Rosalina Vergara Gundran passed away at Jubilee Lodge in Edmonton, AB, on June 18, 2024, at the age of 93. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and devotion to her faith.
Rose was born in June of 1931, in Sta. Teresa, La Union, Philippines. The youngest of ten siblings, she had seven sisters and two brothers. Although she had no children of her own, Rose was like a surrogate mother to her many nieces, nephews, and their families. She single-handedly sponsored numerous relatives to Canada, providing them with guidance, support, and the tools to thrive. This is the enduring gift and legacy that Rose leaves behind.
Her love of teaching was evident throughout her life. Rose began her educational career at Christ the King School in San Fernando, and later at St. Louis School in Baguio. In 1966, seeking a better life, she emigrated to Canada. Through hard work and perseverance, she put herself though university once again and earned her degree to teach in Alberta. Along with her lifelong companion, Emma Villanueva, she settled in the hamlet of Caslan to teach young children at the local school. Both she and Emma worked at Caslan School until their retirements.
Rose was a devout Catholic who tirelessly gave to her community and church. Her faith was very much at the core of who she was as a person. Rose is also remembered for her love of music, reading, and traveling home to the Philippines to visit her family.
She is loved and will be missed.
A Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service to follow at 7:00 p,m., on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Connelly-McKinely Edmonton South Funeral Home (4820 Meridian Street, Edmonton, Alberta). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (2707 34 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta).
