With heavy hearts, but with total submission to the will of The Lord Almighty, the Obuekwe family of Umuogbu Village, Awka Town, Anambra State, Nigeria, is sad to announce the death of their dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, cousin, and uncle, Emeritus Professor Christian Okechukwu Obuekwe (fondly known as “Okey”), who passed away in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on October 10, 2023, at the age of 74 years.
Okey is survived by his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Flossy Ifeyinwa Obuekwe; five children, Ifechukwude (Alicia), Okwuchukwu Obuekwe, Adaobi Okeke (Godfrey), Chioma Obuekwe, Uchenna (Tayo); five grandchildren, Ethan Elochukwu Obuekwe, Kate Amara Obuekwe, Gosife Awele Okeke, Chizitelu Chisom Okeke, and Chizaram Ezinne Okeke; brother, Chunenye Obuekwe; sisters, Nwoshi Ekwunife and Unoma Chukwudozie; cousin, Ifeanyi Obuekwe; nephew, Professor Ozo Obuekwe; niece, Ngozi Ibegbune; many other relatives, in-laws, and friends.
May Okey’s gentle soul rest peacefully in the bosom of The Lord Almighty forever and ever, amen. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South Funeral Home, 4820 Meridian Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 4814 Meridian Street NW, Edmonton Alberta. A Celebration of Life for Professor Christian Okey Obuekwe takes place in the evening, 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at The Riverbend Community League Centre, 258 Rhatigan Road East, NW, Edmonton, Alberta. Reception follows immediately after committal at Connelly-McKinley South Edmonton Funeral Home, 4820 Meridian Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta.
