Patricia Janet Swift (née McMillan) affectionately known as Pat and Patsy to her family and friends,passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, in St. Albert, AB, at the age of 81. Born on July 17, 1943, in North Vancouver, BC, Pat was a beacon of love and generosity, touching the lives of many with her selfless nature and warm spirit.
Pat’s journey through life was shared with her beloved husband, Jack, who predeceased her, leaving behind their children, Jackie (former spouse Sarah, current partner Rose), Shannon (Reg), Dean (Claire), Sean (former spouse Susan; former partner Tanya), and Danny (Shelley). Her life was further enriched by her grandchildren, Torin, Jonathan (Natalia), Richard (Elise), Andrew, Cassie, Madison (Justin), Sophie, Kolton, Zachary and Jayden and great-grandchildren, Imogen, Eli and Elaina. Pat was also a loving step grandmother to, Justin (Stephanie), James (Stevie) and step great grandmother to, Seanna, Brooklynne, Aubrey and Riley.
Pat was the daughter of the late Bill and Ruth and grew up alongside her siblings Maureen, Michelle, and the late Butch and Johnny. She was a devoted daughter-in-law to the late Dorothy, sister-in-law to Yoko, the late Shirley, Wendy, and brother-in-law Brian. Pat had numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she cherished. Pat’s unwavering friendship will be deeply missed by her best friend, Pam.
Pat grew up in North Vancouver then moved to Aldergrove as a teenager. She graduated from Aldergrove Community Secondary School. After marrying Jack in 1965 they lived in Victoria, Boundary Bay, Richmond then settled in 100 Mile House from 1973 to 2007 where they built a beautiful family home in the 108 Mile Ranch.
During and after high school Pat began working as a nursing assistant and, after dedicating years to raising her five children, Pat returned to the workforce at 100 Mile House Hospital. There, she managed the laundry department for ~18 years with exceptional care and diligence. Following her retirement from the hospital, Pat joined her husband, Jack, in 2007 managing an apartment building in Vancouver’s
west end. She continued to oversee the building with grace and efficiency after Jack’s passing until her final retirement in 2017.
Pat will be most remembered by her infectious laugh which raised the spirits of all who heard her. Socializing, parties, games, music, dancing, hobbies and gardening were among Pat’s greatest joys. She took immense pleasure in her home and had an artistic flair for creating an inclusive space for all – one was often greeted by Pat in her housecoat. Christmas was Pat’s favourite holiday and she took great effort in making her home a festive retreat.
Pat was an enthusiast of the arts, frequently attending plays, museums, and concerts, which allowed her to indulge in the cultural experiences she treasured. She loved to travel and meet new people. Her zest for life was contagious, and her presence at any social event was a guarantee of good times and cherished memories. Pat adored the many family pets and after the kids all moved out her favourite dog was Scraps. Pat and Scraps were best buds.
Pat’s essence can be best described by the words selfless, generous, and loving. She was an optimist making the best out of any situation. She gave her time and energy freely to those around her, always prioritizing the needs and happiness of her family and friends. Her unwavering support and nurturing heart were the cornerstones upon which her family was built, and her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Pat, we celebrate a life lived with boundless love and a heart that knew no limits in giving. Her memory will be held in the hearts of those she touched, a testament to the extraordinary woman she was. Pat’s life was a journey of love, laughter, and selfless devotion, leaving wonderful memories for all the people she touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held the spring of 2025 in the lower mainland of British Columbia.
