It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Mildred “Mimi” Aranas of Edmonton, Alberta on Friday, May 17, at the age of 86 years.
Mimi will be lovingly remembered by her children: Dennis (Ingrid), Wade (Amanda), and Vanessa (Derrin): grandchildren: Emily, Zachary, Ava, Luke, Dominic, and Devan; sister, Edna Collins; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
She will also be dearly missed by her friends at the Meadowlark Place Lodge.
Mimi was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Leonardo; brothers, Honesto and Alex; sister, Evelyn; and her parents, Josefa and Leandro.
Mimi was born in San Juan, Philippines. She studied at the University of Santo Tomas and completed her Bachelor of Commerce. She immigrated to Canada on April 1, 1968 with 3-year-old Dennis to join her husband Leo, and made Tisdale, Saskatchewan their first Canadian home. She and Leo were considered pioneers in the Filipino community. She spent the majority of her career doing clerical work for the Alberta Surface Rights Board within the provincial government. In addition, she was an active
member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, fishing, baking, travelling, and last but not least, spending time with her six grandchildren.
Prayer Services will take place at Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home (10011-114 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta) on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., and Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (18407 60 Ave NW, Edmonton, Alberta) on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
