It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kent Alastair Miller, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend, and soldier. Kent passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2024, while serving with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) at NATO headquarters in Belgium. He was 41 years old.
Kent is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie; and their two sons, Matthew and Ryan. He also leaves behind his mother, Carol (Bruce) Freer; his sister, Kelly (Joe) Mohr; his grandfather, Alex Johnson; as well as numerous other family members and a wide circle of friends. Kent was predeceased by his father, Gregory Allan Miller; and his grandmother, Reta Johnson.
Kent grew up in Ontario and was known for being a boy with sturdy legs and a big smile. He graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston in 2007 and was a proud member of the CAF for over 24 years, serving both at home and abroad with distinction. For over 15 years, Edmonton has been the proud home of Kent and Steph, where they raised their sons among a close-knit group of family and friends.
Kent was deeply devoted to building meaningful connections, especially with his two sons, Ryan and Matthew. Known for his natural ability to form lasting friendships, Kent cherished the shared moments with loved ones. He loved planning outdoor adventures with his boys—from cycling and hiking to camping and golfing—always modeling the values of service, hard work and strong relationships. The Rocky Mountains, a place he held close to his heart, became a backdrop for many of these treasured experiences, where he eagerly created memories that will last a lifetime.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on December 8, 2024, at JW Marriott (10344 102 St NW, Edmonton, AB).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a fund or charity that was close to Kent, such as the Jasper Fire Caring Community Fund, Wounded Warriors, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the support and kind words during this incredibly difficult time. Kent will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Arrangements entrusted to Connelly-McKinley Downtown Chapel.
