With heavy hearts and profound love, we bid farewell to Joan, the beloved Mother of our family, who peacefully passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 96.
Joan’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication. She is fondly remembered and cherished by her children: Beverley (Frank), Suzanne (Douglas), Rodney (Dinah), and Ronald (Michele); as well as her grandchildren: Christopher (Jenn), Katrina, Lauren (Kent), Robert (Abby), Andrew (Meghan), Alison (Shaun), Claire (Matthew), Damien (Gary), Chance (Madison); and 14 great-grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Cyril; her parents, Norma and Lloyd Morris; and her sisters, Bette and Gwen.
After growing up in Delburne, Alberta, Joan’s journey began at the University of Alberta, where she pursued an education degree, laying the foundation for her future as a teacher. During her university years, she was an avid curler and sorority member. She also spent her summers working at Lake Louise, where she gained invaluable life experiences.
After marrying Cyril, Joan took her first teaching role in Taber and then lived in Lethbridge before relocating to Edmonton in 1966. In Edmonton, she continued her teaching career while raising her four children, a remarkable feat that began in 1951.
In 1972, Joan had the opportunity to reside in Indonesia for three years, which ignited a lifelong passion for travel. This passion propelled her to explore diverse global destinations. In 1983, her love for travel ultimately led her to assume leadership at McAndrews Travel where she dedicated a decade of sharing her enthusiasm and expertise with others. Following her retirement from the travel industry, Joan with Cy spent the winters in Maui, where she cultivated meaningful friendships and indulged in her lifelong passion for golf.
Beyond her professional and travel pursuits, Joan was a cherished friend to many and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life was woven with rich experiences, shaped by a deep love for God, her family, education, travel, and sports.
Joan’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
