It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Toupin, aged 61, on July 2, 2024. He was born in October 1962 to his parents, Paul and Vera Toupin, in Edmonton, Alberta, and became the “baby” within the family of six children.
James was predeceased by both his parents; and nephew, Timothy James “TJ.” He is survived by the love of his life, his son, Tristan; his sister, Karen (Henry) of Edmonton, Alberta; brother, Paul of Kelowna, B.C; brother, Johnny (Cheryl) of Edmonton, Alberta; brother, Phil (Kathy) of Sherwood Park, Alberta; brother, Peter; and his ex-wife, Steffni of Edmonton, Alberta. He is also survived by his nephews: Lawrence of Edmonton, Alberta and Darwin (Ann) of Edmonton, Alberta; and nieces: Cathy (Randy) of Stony Plain, Alberta, Janae of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Nicole (James) of Australia, Ambie of Edmonton, Alberta, and Katherine of Edmonton, Alberta. Also surviving James are his great-nephews, Drew and Brandon of Edmonton, Alberta.
James grew up with a profound love for comics, music, and the performing arts. From an early age, he would immerse himself in these worlds, finding endless fascination and joy. His passion for amateur dramatics sometimes meant his brothers bore the brunt of his creative experiments, but those early performances were just the beginning of a life dedicated to the stage. James’ talent blossomed over the years, and he became a beloved figure in local theater circles. His performances brought both joy and occasional sadness to audiences well beyond his family, touching the lives of many with his heartfelt portrayals and magnetic stage presence.
He leaves behind a family and numerous friends who will forever remember his infectious enthusiasm, unwavering kindness, and the light he brought into their lives. In honoring James’s memory, we celebrate a life lived with passion and purpose.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home, 10011-114 Street NW, Edmonton, Alberta, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
His spirit will continue to inspire and resonate within the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. James Toupin will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the enduring impact of his art. May he rest in peace.
