Elizabeth Gloria Bryant Obituary
We are sorry to announce the recent passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Gloria Bryant at the grand age of 105 ½ years.
She leaves her sons Reg (Colleen) of Stony Plain and Barry (Eileen) of Bear River, Nova Scotia; grandchildren Tom (Judi) and Erin (Jon), as well as two great-grandchildren Nathan and Sam, sister-in-law Joyce (Wolf) Schwalbe, Lil Mayhew (wife of late nephew Bob Mayhew), as well as nephews Clint Schwalbe, Fred Schwalbe and niece Cathy Altheim along with many relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Bert in 1994, her parents Frederick and Ella Schwalbe, brothers Helmut/Harry Harnisch, Curtland Schwalbe, Wolfgang Schwalbe, twin sisters Hattie (who died at birth) and Hildegard Rand, and sister Hedwig/Ada Shellian.
Betty was a school teacher and began her career in 1938 at Lindale, then at Wetaskiwin, Woodland (south of Highvale), Keephills, Evansburg, Seba Beach and Stony Plain. She retired from teaching in 1966 after 28 years. She enjoyed line dancing, playing pool, floor curling, oil painting, travelling, and family get togethers.
At her request, there will be no funeral or memorial, as her preference was always to celebrate happy times rather than sad occasions. Cremation has taken place, and inurnment will be at Keephills Cemetery.
If you wish to honour Betty’s life, donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Care Centre (the Cottages) in Stony Plain or to the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Cardiology.
