Obituary for
Donna Diane Fayant
Our hearts our broken as we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, sister, aunty and friend to many, Donna Diane Fayant. She passed away due to complications from lung cancer. It was a long two-year cancer journey for her, as she found unimaginable strength to stay with us on her earthly walk, but was called home on June 16th, 2024.
Donna will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jacqueline Fayant; beloved niece, (“Aunty” to) Mia Collier; and siblings, Gilbert (Audrey) Fayant, Rose Fayant, Eric (Donna) Fayant, Eileen Fayant and Ron (Connie) Fayant. Her passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of her chosen sisters: Gloria (Frank) and their children; and Leona Durocher, her lifelong friend until the very end. She also leaves behind a special niece, Gabrielle (Josh) Fayant; in addition to numerous relatives and friends who have been profoundly touched by her kind heart.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Victoria (Parenteau) Fayant; and siblings, Ervin (Margaret) Fayant, Delores (Earl) Fayant, Roy (Verda) Fayant, Art Fayant, Alice Deschamps and Gordon (Rosemary) Fayant.
She found her passion in working as a nurse for 50 years and she continued to share her knowledge and “nurse” herself throughout her cancer journey. Many nurses at Cross Cancer, Royal Alex, and Norwood Palliative Care often took extra care of her because of her many selfless years of caring for others as a nurse. In retirement, she was deeply honored to be asked to sit on the AHS Indigenous Wisdom Council where she sat as an Elder for several years.
Above all else, her greatest joy was being an “adopted” Kohkom or “Aunty” to Mia. She took on the full-time care of this wonderful little girl at 4 years old, and it was her greatest greatest heartbreak to have to leave her seven years later.
She never stopped taking care of others, even in death. She ensured that those left behind would be taken care of spiritually, mentally and physically.
Donna and her parents helped to establish the Fishing Lake Métis Settlement as they were one of the fore-founding families of the then colony. This is her place of birth. She was immensely proud of her Métis roots and could easily get lost for hours in searching through her genealogy, another one of her passions.
Visitation will take place Friday, June 28, 2024, between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Park Memorial, 9709 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel.
