Carol Laverne Hill (Swanson) passed on peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her close family on May 27, 2024. She was born August 17, 1932 in Strome, Alberta, one of five siblings, to Florence and Archie Swanson.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Peter Hill, and daughter, Janet McCracken (Hill); grandchildren, Calum McCracken and Iona Woodhead, and son in law, Matt Woodhead, great grandchildren, Hazel and Theo Woodhead, as well as many nieces and nephews, brother and sister in laws and other family, and friends. Carol will be reunited with her beloved son, Geoffrey, her husband Harold, her sisters, Joyce, Terry, and Phyllis, her brother Gordon, and her mother and father, Florence and Archie, and niece Allison.
Her quiet inner strength and integrity carried her through overseas mission work in Bolivia, and a long nursing career in Bolivia, England and Canada. In embracing a fine arts degree later in life, she discovered a passion for painting and sculpture. She loved her community, her garden, her cat Jellybean, and cared deeply about the welfare of nature and the environment. Her love for her siblings was only surpassed by her dedication to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A service in loving memory of Carol, will be held at Strathcona Baptist Church, Edmonton, June 12, at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honour to the following: Pilgrims Hospice Society at www.pilgrimshospice.com or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
