Martha Lynn Obituary
On Nov 11, 2024 Martha Anderson Lynn passed away peacefully at Drumheller Hospital. She was 86.
Martha was born May 28, 1938 in Nashville, TN. She grew up in College Grove and Franklin, TN and went to David Lipscomb Highschool in Nashville. She worked at National Life & Accident Insurance Company in TN until she moved to AZ.
She met her late husband, Byron, at Valley National Bank in Phoenix where she worked and he spent his winters. They spent that winter rock collecting and gold mining. They were married Mar 30, 1963 in Nevada and she moved to Canada to Byron’s farm. He taught her to run combine which she did for many years but, somehow never did learn to back up properly. Winters were back to AZ until the kids were born.
Martha started working for Weight Watchers in 1970 and worked for them for over 15 years. She lectured in Red Deer, Stettler, Drumheller and Three Hills. She volunteered at Rumsey School and Morrin Skating Club. She enjoyed flower arranging and was involved with the Red Deer Garden Club. Martha sewed her entire life. She made her own wedding and bridal party dresses and kept the tradition by sewing Vicki’s wedding and bridal party dresses as well. She kept her grandchildren well supplied with lovely clothes as babies and toddlers. Martha travelled to sewing shows in Canada and the U.S. teaching workshops on clothing design, pattern making, and crazy quilting. Later she became interested in machine quilting and made many beautiful quilts for family and friends and neighbours.
In retirement, this independent lady drove back and forth to AZ with her Rottweiler sidekick to spend the winters there. First, in a motorhome and later she settled in a house in Gold Canyon with a scenic view of her beloved Superstition Mountains. She enjoyed many winters in AZ sewing, visiting with neighbours and going to events with friends. Martha always drove down by herself (and her Rottweiler sidekick) but somehow forgot the way home so she required a driving buddy to come home to Canada.
Martha leaves a son James Lynn, daughter-in-law Anita Lynn of Rumsey, AB; daughter Victoria Lynn-Holsworth, son-in-law Scott Holsworth of Sedgewick, AB; grandchildren – Jesse Holsworth of Calgary, AB and Jaime Holsworth of Red Deer, AB; brother Paul Harris Tune Jr. and sister-in-law Sara Talley Tune of Nolensville, TN.
She is predeceased by her husband James Byron Lynn, mother Frances Sweeney Tune and father Paul Harris Tune Sr.
Martha wished to not have a memorial service but she wants to thank her family, friends and neighbors for all their love, support and friendship. Martha’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all the nurses and doctors who helped Martha during her time in Drumheller and Red Deer Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
