Rita Weir, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away surrounded by family at the age of 78 years on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Drayton Valley, Alberta after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on October 4, 1946, in Olds, Alberta, Rita’s gentle nature touched everyone she met throughout her life.
Rita’s life was rich with passions. She found joy in quilting and fabric art, and her creative spirit ensured that each of our family homes were a haven of comfort and warmth. She had a deep love for all animals, particularly her dogs, Max and Lola, as well as her many grandpuppies. Rita found solace in nature and music, and she loved a good book. She had a strong connection to her community, always looking for ways to give back and make a difference in the lives of others. Above all, her most treasured roles were as a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring Nana to her grandchildren.
Rita is lovingly remembered by her husband, Bob Weir; her son, Grayson Weir (Nicole Weir); her daughter, Krista Weir (Kevin Tennant); her adored grandchildren, Alex and Emily Weir, and her large extended family. She also had a very special relationship with Jimmy Sartain and his family from Dallas, Texas.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many members of the Drayton Valley community for their love, care, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a tremendous comfort to the family and a reflection of Rita’s own commitment of giving.
A memorial service will be held in Rita’s honor on Wednesday December 11, 2024, at the Pomeroy Inn and Suites, 4601 46 Ave., Olds, Alberta at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Drayton Valley Cause for Critters or the Drayton Valley Hospital Foundation to honor Rita’s legacy of giving back to the community.
