James “Jim” Albert Johnson Obituary
James “Jim” Albert Johnson
November 7, 1946 – April 30, 2024
James Albert Johnson passed away at Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre on Tuesday, April 30, 2024at the age of 72 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Jim was a kind and compassionate soul who always put others before himself. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people smile.
Jim had a passion for coaching hockey and was proud of all the kids he had coached over the years. He enjoyed spending time at Oaks Bay on Buck Lake with his family, playing sports and enjoying the outdoors. Jim also had a love for animals, especially his pets Bubbles and Smokey.
Jim was always a loving grandfather, always trying to trick his grandkids into believing all kinds of things; brown cows made chocolate milk, or that some of them lived in a barn for 20 years. He even got tricked out of an ice cream or two himself. He also made sure to spoil them rotten, whether it be taking them to their favorite fast food or making them food every day. He never let them get hungry for a second. He always knew how to make them smile even if the day was hard. “Pull my finger, it’s just inert gas” we all heard often. He was there day and night to answer the phone and talk them through whatever the day had thrown at them.
He valued his friendships, his new friendships and his first friendships, they all had meaning and many stories. Jim enjoyed woodworking and talking on the CB radio especially with Uncle Joe. He was a truck driver and driving trucks is how he met Gloria Severin aka “Mom” driving truck for his father-in-law Rudy Severin; his handle was Bluejay, Breaker 1-9 this day of April 30th/2024 The Bluejay is signing off for his last call.
Jim will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his love for his family, and his willingness to always lend an ear to anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his children, Lonni Johnson and James Johnson; grandchildren, Tyrell Johnson, Michael Inglis, Chelsey Inglis and Kevin (Jo Jo) Johnson; siblings, Peggy (Emil) Schmidt, Elsie (Art) Saunders, Ruth (George) Webb, Josie (Joe) Bartek and Tom (Joyce) Johnson, as well as many extended family, including nephews who were more like brothers.
For those who so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Drayton Valley Community Cancer Centre through Drayton Valley Hospital Foundation, 4550 Madsen Avenue, Drayton Valley, Alberta T7A 1N8.
