Velma Rainey, a beloved homemaker who touched the lives of many with her bright smile, kind nature, and great sense of humor, passed away on January 2, 2024, at Southwood Hospice in Calgary. She was born on January 8, 1940, in Leader Saskatchewan. Velma had a truly remarkable life filled with love and laughter.
Throughout her years as a homemaker, Velma found joy in tending to her beautiful garden. Her green thumb was evident in every blossom that bloomed under her care. The vibrant colors and fragrant scents brought happiness not only to Velma but also to all those who had the pleasure of witnessing her floral oasis.
In addition to her talent for gardening, Velma had many hobbies and interests. She loved to bake delicious treats that would bring smiles to the faces of her family and friends. Her artistic abilities were admirable, as she excelled in both painting and embroidery. Velma’s creative spirit was evident in every stroke of her brush and every intricate stitch she made.
When it came to leisure activities, Velma had a competitive side. She enjoyed spending time bowling at the care center and could easily knock down pins with precision. A game of bingo was another favorite pastime for Velma, where she displayed her skills and had unforgettable moments filled with laughter and friendly competition.
She often journeyed to Medicine Hat, AB to visit her mother, Hilda Flemmer. Those trips allowed mother and daughter to create lasting memories together and cherish their time spent in each other’s company.
One thing that always brought immense joy to Velma’s life was watching fireworks illuminate the night sky. The explosions of color and sound captivated her, filling her heart with wonderment. Whether it was on Canada Day or New Year’s Eve celebrations, Velma could be found gazing up at the dazzling display, her eyes sparkling with fascination.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Roxanne Rainey and Tammy Keizer; Velma’s son in law, Paul Keizer; as well as her grandchildren, Eleyse Rainey and Ivan Rainey. Velma cherished her role as a mother and leaves behind countless treasured memories for her children to hold onto.
In addition to her immediate family, Velma had a wide circle of friends whose lives she brightened with her infectious laughter and genuine warmth. Their shared moments intertwined their lives in a beautiful tapestry of friendship and love.
Velma Rainey’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her. However, it is with gratefulness that we remember the remarkable woman she was and the countless ways she touched our lives.
