Stanley Nicholas Borowski
December 6, 1940 — November 26, 2024
Calgary, Alberta
Stanley Nicolas Borowski passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a mercifully short and painless battle with cancer. A rote list of accolades cannot summarize the profound impact of his quiet life and his absence is deeply felt by those who loved him.
Stan was born in a humble farmhouse in Fork River, Manitoba where the family raised cattle, pigs, chickens, grain and hay. Farm life shaped the bedrock of his character: hard work, frugality, integrity and loyalty. His was the ultimate Canadian love story: He met his eternal sweetheart, Christine Wilde, while curling in Calgary. They built a beautiful life together on a picturesque plot in Maple Ridge overlooking the rolling hills of the golf course. He was fortunate to live there for 56 years until his passing.
Stan had a deep appreciation for the simple things. He cultivated a large garden bursting with life and he especially loved the outdoors and birds. Weekends with his young family were spent camping in their trusty Nomad trailer, with countless adventures to his beloved mountains and lakes. His explorations continued until mere weeks before his death. He loved skating the circuitous routes around Lake Bonavista, cross-country skiing the Maple Ridge Golf Course, bombing down the gully on a sled or golf cart with the grandchildren, and swimming in Sikome Lake (despite Christine’s repeated cautionings, “You’ll get swimmer’s itch.”) He spent thousands of hours biking the trails of Fish Creek Provincial Park and along “the Bow Liver” (his understated sense of humor was legendary as well).
He was always busy quietly serving his family and community. He was a regular at the Willow Ridge Community Center where he would flood the rinks on even the most frigid nights. He worked at Chevron Canada for over 30 years and continued to serve the community through its alumni association until his passing. And, most importantly, he was Christine’s selfless, patient and kind caregiver as she battled multiple sclerosis for many decades.
He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the self-appointed steward of the building at 940 Acadia Drive SE. For over five decades, he made the pilgrimage across the street to lock up in the evenings and shovel the walks for his friends and neighbors.
Stan is survived by his children Pat (Jane), Amber (Jamie) and Jade, his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The night before his passing, he told Pat he was ready to go and would pass away last night…and he did. True to his word until the very end. He was greeted on the other side by legions of loved ones and, as his family jokes, by Christine’s piercingly memorable, “Staaaaaaan!!!”
A Funeral Service will be held for Stan at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Willow Park Chapel (940 Acadia Dr. SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
For those who are not with us in person, the service will be webcast live at: us02web.zoom.us/j/87013976307

In honor of his legacy, the family invites you to live like Stan: To remember your Savior this holiday season and to quietly serve those around you.
