Morten Pedersen Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Morten Vejsig Pedersen, who passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on Friday, September 20, 2024, at South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.
Morten was born in Sønder Omme and raised in Vejen, Denmark. He earned his machinist certification before pursuing mechanical engineering studies in Copenhagen. He worked as a mechanical engineer for over sixty years, with his expertise in HVAC systems earning him high regard from colleagues. Morten continued working well into his eighties, finally retiring at the impressive age of ninety.
In Copenhagen, Morten met his beloved wife, Bente, and after a year, they married and embarked on their great adventure together in Canada. In April 1956, they settled in Calgary, where they built their life and raised their family. Morten enjoyed a long, successful career while also indulging in his love for golf, hiking, skiing, fishing, and traveling. He especially cherished his trips back to Denmark to connect with family and maintain his Danish heritage.
Morten is predeceased by his parents, Hans and Anna, and his brothers, Peder and Knud. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Bente, their children Finn (Anna), Thomas (Jennifer), and Nelle, as well as his treasured grandchildren: Mitchell, Brita (Glynndon), Haley (Travis), Ellen (Ethan), Jack, Laila, Alex (Katie), and Sam.
A Funeral Service and Celebration of Morten’s Life will be held at the Danish Lutheran Church (210 10th Avenue NE) on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. Following the service a Reception will be held at the Danish Canadian Club (727 11 Ave SW).
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Danish Canadian National Museum in Dickson, AB at www.danishcanadianmuseum.com.
