Ida Madsen Obituary
Ida Madsen (nee Clemmensen) passed away on Tuesday November 5, 2024 at the age of 94 years. She is survived by her daughter Lois (Don) Powers; sons Wayne (Lynda) Madsen and Randy (Tammy) Madsen; 6 grandchildren, Daryl (Chantelle) Powers, Corey (Sonja) Powers, Marty Madsen, Duane (Samantha) Madsen, Alyssa (Trent) Batchelor and Shayanna (Kieran) Staples; and 12 great grandchildren, Keirsten Powers, Tryston Powers, Brayton Powers, Matthew Powers, Sloane Powers, Felix Powers, Taylor Madsen, Nia-Lee Madsen, Ezra Madsen, Tenley Batchelor, Theo Batchelor and Sophie Staples. Ida was predeceased by her husband Ejner Madsen, daughter-in-law Cathy Madsen and granddaughter Tammy-Lynn Powers. Ida had 13 siblings and was the last surviving member of her family.
Ida was born in Bjorkdale, SK and moved to Swan River, MB at a young age. It was there she would meet, fall in love with and marry (in 1948) Ejner. They lived in Swan River, Winnipeg, Toronto and Whitby before moving to Calgary in 1975. Other than a few years in Wainwright Calgary has been home since 1975.
Ida was caring, kind and gentle. Everyone was her friend and she had a real soft spot for the underdog, regardless of age or circumstance. She had a magic way with children. Ida loved camping and was game for whatever activity the kids or grandkids were into. She travelled across Canada and the US to watch them pursue their various activities. Most of all Ida loved being with family. She was the ultimate matriarch, but not in a powerful way, just leading quietly and by example. Ida always had the ability to generate huge family gatherings of 30 or more for various occasions throughout the year.
Ida went by many names within her own family; Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Bedstemor. She remained incredibly spry and active for over 93 years and her family feels blessed to have had her so long. She will be deeply missed by all.
