Obituary of Douglas Martineau
August 24, 1954 – Seven Kings, Es, United Kingdom
November 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce the sudden loss of our beloved John Martineau, who passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
Born in Es, England, to Joan Edna (nee Risley) and Douglas Martineau on August 24, 1954, John was raised alongside his three siblings in Thessalon and North Bay, Ontario.
John came west in February of 1974 and found his home here in Calgary. He worked hard and in 1977, he established his successful business, Martineau Roofing Ltd. In the same year, he started his family with his then partner Linda Lenhard.
John met Cate in 1991 and after a whirlwind courtship, they finally married in August 2019.
A loving, loyal, and caring Husband, Father and Dubba, John will be greatly missed by his wife Cate Graham, his children, Jason and Jaime Martineau, Sarah Martineau and Scott Edmand, Adrian and Hannah Martineau, Isis Graham and Amadeus Meitner, Ayla Graham and Danny Quashnick, and Liam Graham; his grandchildren, Carrick and Isla, Eben and Iris, Chloe and Bennett, Taylor and Cameron, Liam and Lorelei; his great-grandchildren, Destry, Alara, and Aurelia; his siblings, Leslie, Deena, Terry Martineau, and Diane Buser; as well as his many cousins, and his many, many, friends and colleagues.
If you knew John at all, you knew you had a friend who would help you out in any way he could, who would tell you endless great stories, and who would always tell you the truth, whether you wanted to hear it or not. John was loved and respected far and wide.
John loved life. He said no problem couldn’t be solved by getting up every day and putting your boots on. When he learned he was ill five years ago, he adopted the positive refrain, “I am not going to let my dying get in the way of my living.” And indeed, he did not. He lived his life to the fullest up until the very end.
