Don Leier Obituary
With an abundance of love, peace, and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Don Leier, at the age of 95.
Don’s final moments were peaceful, surrounded by family, with his beloved wife by his side, holding his hand.
He will be remembered by most anyone he encountered for his infectious laugh, his mischievous sense of humor, his engaging personality style, and the ability to toggle between deep thought and conversation and then unexpectedly lighten the mood with a well-timed zinger.
Don was born and raised in Regina, SK. After high school, he completed his studies in Saskatoon and eventually obtained his chartered accountant designation. He began working for Revenue Canada where he had a successful career of thirty-three years. He met Terry, the love of his life in Regina. They were married on May 21, 1956 and over a span of ten years were thrilled to welcome five children into the world; four girls and one boy. Don and Terry loved family holidays and had many camping and skiing vacations with their five children. Later on, travel continued to be high on their priority list, and they enjoyed many amazing trips together, sometimes just the two of them and other times with good friends. To name a few, they enjoyed holidays and cruises to Europe, Africa, China, Japan, Australia, and Hawaii, as well as getting away to warmer destinations in the winter. Don was a family man through and through and loved getting together to celebrate special occasions.
Don was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend to many. He enjoyed a profoundly close relationship with his wife, Terry, and he considered this to be the proudest achievement of his long, full life.
In conversations with family, Don expressed that he understood the unlikeliness of being born a human at all and marveled at this. A lifelong, devout Catholic, he came to believe over time that every individual needs to find their own way, and that there are many paths to take. He admired lives lived ethically, with integrity, and in service, regardless of religion or belief system.
Like all of us, Don was a human with particular talents, strengths, and weaknesses. He was open to learning and growing throughout his lifetime.
In the end, he concluded, it all comes down to love. He was immensely grateful to have loved, and to be loved. He wanted us to express his gratitude to those he considered to be his teachers in life and to say thank you and goodbye.
He is already missed immeasurably by his loving wife of 67 years, Terry; his children, Michelle Lindsey(Ronald), Marjorie Korol(Gary), Paul(Suzette) and Maureen; his precious grandchildren, Erin(Lucas), Kent(Danielle), Stephanie(Michael), Trevor(Danielle), Arthur(Jessica), Zoe, Sadie, Pretannia and Joanna; his·great-grandchildren, Nathan, James, Laurie, Luna, Olivia, Everly, Scarlett as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Don is now reunited with his daughter Laurie(died in 1987), his parents, four sisters, six brothers, nieces, and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (corner of Northmount Dr and Northland Dr NW) on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. Friends and family are invited to share in remembering a man who loved deeply and made every moment count.
