David (Dave) Curran loving husband of Marie passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, at the age of 75 years.
Dave came to Canada at the age of 2 with his parents, Albert and Lucy, and his two sisters, Dorothy and Susan, in November 1951. The Curran family settled in Calgary, where most reside to this day.
Dave embraced the role of being the oldest brother out of nine siblings Including Dorothy, Susan, Stephen, Janice, Alan, Mark, Peter, and Donna being the oldest son in his younger years he felt that at times he was a protector and mentor and where he started working at the age of 16 in the Oil Industry to help his family financially.
In 1971 while Dave was working with Alberta Stevens Medical Supplies as a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor, he met his future wife Marie who was working as a receptionist. After a few years of dating, Dave and Marie were married in 1973 in Calgary. Their love blossomed and led to over 50 years of marriage. Together they built a home in Calgary filled with laughter, love and, as Dave called it, individual serious discussions. During those years, they welcomed their three sons Shawn, Scott, and Thomas into their hearts.
Soon after that Dave would shift gears into owning his own trucking company with a few employees. However, after the oil crisis of the ’70s and the long hours of being on the road with long haul trucking, he wanted to be home more with Marie and his sons so he changed careers and found himself working for Award Heating. Shortly after Award Heating, Dave found a home at Alggin Heating Supplies, a company he worked with for over 25 years and where he worked his way up to become their Credit Manager.
In his early years, Dave had a passion for working on old vehicles and enjoyed the thrill of restoring them to working order and his interest in cars and trucks would remain with him his whole life. He took special pride in restoring two extraordinary trucks as he saw it. In these two vintage vehicles, he put his heart, soul, and some of his wealth. They were special to him as he did one for each of his sons…a 1967 truck for his son Scott and a 1962 truck for his son Thomas.
Dave was always generous, especially with his wife Marie the love of his life. If his family wanted the moon if possible he would have gotten it for them, with no questions asked – no cost. He was always steadfast and supported his wife, sons, and his grandchildren, Ashlan, Isabella, and Owen (who were the light of his eyes) with all the love he could give.
Through several setbacks with his health and early retirement due to his eyes, he never let life get him down and he always persevered. Even after being considered partially blind which led to the loss of one of his passions, driving, he always looked at the best side of his life, his family.
Dave is survived by his wife Marie, his son Scott (Anne-Marie), and Ashlan, his son Thomas (Melissa), Isabella, and Owen.
He was predeceased by his son Shawn, his grandson Christian, parents Albert and Lucy, sisters Janice and Dorothy, and his brother Mark.
He was the most wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was always kind, thoughtful, loving, and a true gentleman loved by all. Dave will be greatly missed by family and friends whose lives he touched.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church (7103 20A Street SE) on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 11:00 am.
