Cecil Roy French, a beloved father, grandfather, and brother passed away on January 8, 2024, in Calgary.
Born on June 9, 1940, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Cecil was a kind-hearted and brave man who touched the lives of many with his good sense of humor.
Cecil dedicated a significant portion of his life to serving his country. He worked in the military for many years, demonstrating unwavering loyalty and dedication to his duty. His commitment and sacrifices are commendable and will forever be remembered by those who knew him.
Outside of his military service, Cecil had a passion for crafting and macrame. These hobbies brought him joy and allowed him to express his creativity.
Throughout his life, Cecil faced various challenges with resilience and determination. Sadly, he battled dementia in his final years. Despite the difficulties that came with this illness, Cecil remained strong-willed and continued to bring light into the lives of those around him.
Cecil’s impact extended beyond his immediate family as well. He leaves behind a legacy that will be carried on by his surviving family members and friends. Among those who will forever cherish his memory are his children, Rene (Charlene) French of Gleichen, AB , Fern (Stephen) Joyce of Gleichen, AB , Shirley French of Gleichen, AB and Michael French of Strathmore, AB; His grandchildren, Channel French of BC, Ryan Joyce and Caroline Oliver of Gleichen, AB, Shane Joyce of Gleichen, AB, Crystal Joyce and Rhy Williams of Gleichen, AB, Cody French and Chantel Prouse of Wheatland County, AB, Brianna French of Ontario, Kelly-Anne Shear Smith, and Mitchel Daw; his three great-grandchildren, Alex, Olivia and Austin; Cecil’s brothers, Ernie (Wendy) French of Calgary, AB and Gordon (Cindy) French of Surrey, BC.
Cecil is predeceased by his parents, Viola French and Cecil Merle French; as well as his brothers and sisters.
To honor Cecil’s remarkable life and bid him farewell, a Celebration of Life service will be held on June 15, 2024, at Legion #286 (Jubilee) located at #5 1107 33 Street NE, Calgary, AB T2A 6T2, Canada. The service will commence at 11:30 AM This event will serve as an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to gather together, reminisce about Cecil’s joyful spirit, and offer support to one another during this difficult time.
Cecil Roy French will forever be remembered as a kind and brave individual who touched the lives of many. His humor and positive outlook on life brought comfort and joy to all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is no longer with us physically, his memory will live on in our hearts.
