It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother Candace Danielle Gilmore-Stephensen at the age of 66 years, peacefully surrounded by her husband, daughters, and son in-laws on August 16, 2024.
She is survived by her husband Mitch, her daughters Sara (Chad) and Mary (Taylor), her sisters Suzanne (Robert) and Melanie, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Candace was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Denis and Ellen-Anne Gilmore on June 7th, 1958. At the age of 18, she began work at the Royal Bank of Canada where she was an employee for well over thirty years before retiring as the Manager of Operations for Private Banking. She met her husband Mitch while working part-time at a record store and they were married on April 8, 1989. Soon after Mitch graduated from Law School, Candace and Mitch moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1990, where they raised their two daughters.
She and her family enjoyed travelling extensively to places such as Australia, Korea, France, Portugal, Italy, Spain, England, Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, and various places across Canada and in the USA, as well as spending time at her summer cottage in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Candace was well known in the Girl Guides of Canada having been a leader of Sparks, Brownies, and Pathfinders, and serving as the Commissioner for the Calgary NorthStar District.
Candace always knew what to say, had a positive upbeat attitude, and was always happy to help others. She was the ultimate problem-solver with no problem too big or small. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and caring empathy was beyond compare. She made everyone’s life better and constantly put others before herself. She cared so much for everyone around her. Anyone who crossed paths with Candace knew how special she was. There really are no words that can describe just how special she was and how much of a loss will always be felt.
At Candace’s request no service will be held.
