Waldemar Unruh was born on June 13, 1928 in Gnadenfeld, Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and married the love of his life, Ella Weick in 1950. Together they raised three children in Rosemary, Alberta. Wally was a hard worker throughout is life. He loved selling and was an exceptional salesman. Wally eventually owned his own hardware store, a second-hand store and finally a furniture store. Wally loved to travel and spent many winters in Hawaii and Palm Springs. Camping was also a big part of his life spending time in Kimberley, the kanagan, Lake Newell and Rolling Hills Reservoir. Wally was instrumental in building the Rosemary Centennial Park, the Mennonite Church, and was a member of Village Town council. He was baptized in 1964 and was an active member of the Mennonite Church ever since.
Rosemary was home until 2012 when Wally and Ella moved to Newbrook Lodge in Brooks. Wally relocated to Sunrise Gardens in June of 2023.
Waldemar Unruh passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023 at the age of 95 years.
Wally was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Susanna, stepfather George, brother Walter, sister Elveria, half brother Arthur and his beloved wife Ella.
He will always be missed by his three children Betty (Bill), Harold (Ellen), Richard (Heather), 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and the many friends that he made over the years. Wally will be with us through the memories we hold in our hearts.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29th at 1:30 pm from the Rosemary Mennonite Church. Mr. Ben Nickel officiating. Interment will take place after the service at the Rosemary Cemetery followed by a lunch in the basement of the church.
