Robert “Bob” Gresl Obituary
Robert Charles Gresl of Beaver Mines, AB passed away at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre, Blairmore, AB on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at the age of 77 years.
Bob was born in Edmonton on March 18, 1947. He moved to Hillcrest, AB in June 1952 when he was adopted by Charles and Margaret Gresl and welcomed with love by his two sisters, Maxine and Beverley.
From an early age Bob loved the outdoors and exploring the woods of Hillcrest where he fell in love with hunting and fishing so much that the Hillcrest boys brought home a baby Lynx that was eventually sold to Walt Disney.
At the age of 17 Bob joined the army reserves and would spend two summers in Wainwright, AB where he learnt to weld, a craft he would master and use for the rest of his life.
He was employed by Phillips Cables for 20 years and Summit Lime Works for 27 years until his retirement. After the closing of Philips Cables, Bob went to help set up the plant in China where he worked for six weeks.
The greatest love of his life was spending time with his family and to include his nieces and nephews doing everything from mountain climbing to snowmobiling. He was especially fond of his two grandchildren, Libby and Steven.
His proudest moment was traveling to Ottawa, ON this May to witness his son, Charles receive the medal of military merit from the Governor General.
Bob’s mind was one of creativity; he built everything from houses to trinkets. There is a small part of his crafts all over the world.
Bob’s was a life well-lived and he will be remembered with love and respect.
Left to mourn his loss is his loving family: his son, Charles (Tracey) of Lethbridge, AB; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Steven; his sister, Beverley Cleave of Edmonton, AB; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Charles Gresl and Margaret Gresl (Née: White); his sister, Maxine Dowson; and his brothers-in-law, Tom Dowson and Blaine Cleave.
Bob’s family would like to thank Dr. Maritz for the amazing care and compassion he gave him over the past 25 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Bob’s house (6319, Range Road 2-1, Beaver Mines, AB) on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers or donations, please pass on an act of kindness to others. Condolences may be registered at www.fantinsfuneralchapel.ca.
